CENTERBURG — The rematch is upon us, akin to a heavyweight bout will take place Wednesday in the Centerburg High School gym.

Those going toe-to-toe will not be wearing boxing gloves, but basketball uniforms as the Centerburg girls basketball team (16-2 overall, 11-2 in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference) will host Fredericktown (15-3 , 11-3) in the game of the year in Knox County.

This matchup pits the two teams tied atop the KMAC standings, with the league title on the line.

The first meeting at Fredericktown on Jan. 3 loomed large for both teams. The Freddies handed the Trojans a 41-29 setback that night.

The outcome of this encounter may well rest in the hands of two players, both eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for their respective schools.

Cally Carpenter accounts for 17 points a game, leading the Freddies, while her counterpart, Kayla Larimore leads the Trojans by averaging 22 points per contest.

Carpenter said that she has made small adjustments to  her game as a senior.

“I shot more from 3-point range (last year),” Carpenter said. “This year I am playing more inside.

“I just want to be an all-around player.”

Larimore is well aware of Carpenter’s capabilities.

“I focus a lot on Cally,” Larimore said. “I watch (game films) and see what she does.

“I’ve played enough with Cally that I know what her weaknesses are and what her strengths are.”

Loudonville is third in the conference race with a 9-3 mark in league play.
