MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon citizens successfully overturned two city council votes Tuesday night.
The Edgewood Road improvement project was denied, according to final, unofficial results from the Knox County Board of Elections.
The referendum measure received 63.80% of the vote, according to the Knox County Board of Elections’ final, unofficial results.
It received 4,368 “no” votes compared to 2,478 (36.20%) “yes” votes.
The Vernonview Drive rezoning referendum received 65.83% of the “no” vote, according to the same final, unofficial results.
It received 4,355 “no” votes compared to 2,261 (34.17%) “yes” votes.
Attempts to reach city safety service director Tanner Salyers on Tuesday evening were unsuccessful.
