David S. Gillespie, age 74, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. He was born on December 1, 1949, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of David H. and Eileen (Omlor) Gillespie. David was a 1967 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and served in the Ohio National Guard.
He previously worked at Westinghouse in Mansfield before retiring in 2003 from Owens Corning in Newark. David was a member of the Fredericktown Church of Christ and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. David also enjoyed a good garage sale or flea market as he was always looking for that “great find.”
While living in Fredericktown, David was one of original founders of the girl’s slow pitch softball league and he spent many days coaching and umpiring. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
David is survived by his wife Barbara (Gray) Gillespie, whom he married on May 16, 1970, his children, Jennifer (Shawn) Dawson of Sunbury and J.D. (Evone) Gillespie of Sunbury, four grandchildren, Olivia Dawson, Ella Dawson, Ethan Gillespie, Austin Gillespie, a sister, Judy (Dale) Van Winkle of Mount Vernon and many nieces and nephews.
The family will observe a private graveside in Mound View Cemetery.
