MOUNT VERNON — The Nutcracker, an engaging story of a young girl, a dream and an enchanted nutcracker comes to life on stage at The Woodward Opera House on Dec. 7 and 8.
The Central Ohio Youth Ballet will present The Nutcracker at The Woodward Opera House in Mount Vernon on Dec. 7 at 2 and 6 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
The COYB is excited to bring one of its former dancers, currently with the Indianapolis Ballet, Grace McCutcheon to her home stage as the Sugar Plum Fairy, when the show debuts in Newark over Thanksgiving weekend at the Midland Theater.
She will be joined by Indianapolis Ballet dancer, Camilo Santiesteban as her Cavalier in bringing the magic and splendor of this holiday classic to life Friday, Nov. 29 to Sunday, Dec. 1.
This family-friendly length production with community-inclusive pricing is staged by Robert Cole, former dancer with The National Ballet of Canada. His love for the complexity and pageantry of a classical story ballet draws a cast of young dancers from five different counties to join him in creating this beloved story in Central Ohio.
The production opens with the audience welcomed into the holiday gala of the Silberhaus family, where whimsical vignettes, magic tricks, playfulness and mystery build.
Clara’s journey traverses a battleground with the toy soldiers and menacing mice, a beautiful snowy landscape and a magnificent kingdom of enticing sweets.
The Nutcracker story is brought to life with dynamic dancing, vivid costumes and dazzling details to delight even the youngest audience members.
The COYB brings 40 youth dancers, flanked by adults as party guests to re-create this entrancing story in this fast-paced holiday classic set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score.
