The City of Mount Vernon has let the condition of Edgewood Road erode to its present deplorable condition.
The residents want the road repaved, utilities updated, and necessary curbs and storm sewers.
Those repairs and improvements must be made, but it’s not fair to use them as justification to connect Edgewood Road to Coshocton Avenue, something that is not needed, unwanted, will not be effective, and very expensive.Â
The mayor stated the idea of connecting Edgewood to Coshocton Avenue is over 78 years old.
How can he seriously support an outdated idea that was dropped and should not be resurrected?
Traffic needs to be routed to the eastern end of Coshocton, not dumped at the western end.
And as for sidewalks, I agree, a sidewalk in an area where there is space for one does increase the property value.
But squeezing an 8-foot sidewalk along houses that already practically sit on the street is ridiculous.
Has anyone from the City of Mount Vernon actually come out and measured to see where the sidewalks will actually be in relationship to the houses, especially after curbs are added?
Or are they turning a blind eye to the reality of what homeowners will be stuck with if they are put in?
The mayor said people opposing Resolution 2024-23 are misrepresenting the Edgewood Road Project with misinformation.
Our information is from the City’s own application to ODOT, which was obtained through a public information request by a resident of Edgewood. How can facts taken from a document produced by the City be faulty?
We’re not the ones misrepresenting the truth.
