Barry David Thomson, born in Barrow-in-Furness, England, on June 1, 1938, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024.
The son of David and Georgina (Lee) Thomson, Barry graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent two years at sea with British Petroleum before joining Rolls Royce in England.
In 1978, Barry’s career brought him to Mount Vernon, where he helped establish a joint venture with Cooper Bessemer. He served as president of Cooper Rolls until his retirement in 2000. Barry’s leadership and dedication made a lasting impact in his field.
In 1994, Barry married his wife, Connie (Folkerth Parson). Together, they traveled the world, visiting over 100 countries and earning Barry membership in the prestigious Century Club. A two-time club champion at golf, Barry was a member of the Mt Vernon Country Club and a former member of The Homestead Club. He was also a dedicated supporter of British football, following Leicester City and Manchester City.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, his son Paul Thomson of Coventry, England, and his brother George Thomson of Toronto, Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, his daughter Caroline (Geoff) Dunkley of Laxey, Isle of Man, UK, stepson Adam (Joanna) Parson of Upper Arlington, OH, and stepdaughter Kelly (Trent) Kelley of Mt Vernon, OH. Barry will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Lee (Pilar Basa) Dunkley of Sydney, Australia, Adam (Harriet Goodacre) Dunkley of Coventry, England, Chance (Desi Ecleo) Parson, Emma Parson, and Jack Parson, all of Columbus, OH, and Ariel (Mayson) Johnson of Punta Gorda, FL, as well as Troy Kelley, Ashlyn Kelley, and Brooklyn Kelley of Mt Vernon, OH. Barry was also a proud great-grandfather to Eve and Rue Johnson.
Barry will be remembered for his intellect, adventurous spirit, and a master of storytelling. His memory will live on through the lives he touched.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at The Mount Vernon Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in his memory.
