Louie Kathleen Smith, age 92, of Wooster, passed away on September 5, 2024, at Brookdale Wooster, Senior Living Center. Kathleen was born on August 18, 1932, to the late Bert William and Verna Wave (Colville) Evans, in Utica, Ohio.
On April 23, 1955 she married the love of her life, Charles Edwin Smith, who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Utica Washington High School in 1950 and a graduate of Mount Vernon Business School. Kathleen worked for the Ohio Power Company Accounting Office in Newark from 1951-1955, then was proud to work at the Utica Elementary School as secretary from 1965-1989. Some of the awards she received are WCLT’s Secretary-of-the-week, North Fork Hall of Honors, and NFEA Outstanding Service. She was a member of the Utica LaSertoma Club since 1971, former member of Utica Community Service Guild, former member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter O of Newark and Chapter Y of Mount Vernon. Kathleen was the Ice Cream Festival Parade Grand Marshal and Utica Homecoming Pet Parade CoGrand Marshal. She served on the Board of Elections for the Village of Utica, and helped with Kindergarten registration for many years. She enjoyed bowling at Redskin Lanes in Utica and delivering meals-on-wheels. Kathleen loved following her son’s school athletic and music programs, loved watching her granddaughter in sports, music and other activities. She followed Utica’s girls’ sports programs and was an avid OSU and Cleveland Indians fan. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Kathleen is survived by her son, Brady Duane (Sharon) Smith; granddaughter, Trista Marie-Smith (Matt) Poland; great-grandson, Nickolas Patrick; nieces, Karen (Mary) Ritchey, Jackie (Charles) Wells; nephews Terry (Sandy) Evans, Bill (Sandy) Evans, John (Julie) Evans; and many great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne Evans, Cyrene Evans, Dale Evans; sister, Glenna Ritchey; niece, Phyllis Stull; and nephew, Sam Ritchey.
Family will receive friends on September 12, 2024 from 11 – 1 PM at the Brucker Baker Funeral Home, Utica, where her service will immediately follow at 1 pm with Pastor Don Allen. The burial will take place in Union Grove Cemetery.
