Jean Hobbs, age 101, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 8, 1923, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Hugh and Eva McCalla. Jean graduated from Mount Vernon High School and attended college earning a degree in music. She worked for Dr. Schmidt as a medical assistant and stayed with him until he retired. Jean loved music, playing in the Church Choir and teaching vocal lessons. She had numerous friends that she loved spending time with but most of all she loved the time she had with her family. Family was her heart. She was a lifelong member of the Mulberry Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill (Mike) Phillips; grandchildren, Tim (Tammy) Bales. Adam (Susan Lahmers) Bales, Shelly (Steve) Mullins, Amy (John) Gleason, Clint (Abbey) Hobbs, Andrea Ignasiak, Kylie (Ryan) Hoover, Sydney Hobbs, Jacob (Kayla) Hobbs; and numerous great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hobbs, sons, Michael Hobbs, Charlie Hobbs; grandsons, Michael Hobbs, Hugh Bales; sisters, Jackie Cordle and Sally Wolfe.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 5-7 pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home; 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 11 am at the Mulberry Church; 205 N. Mulberry St, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, officiated by Pastor Doug Pummell. A burial will follow in East View Cemetery in Centerburg, Ohio.
