MOUNT VERNON — Election season is upon us and the Friends of the Knox County Dog Shelter will begin its annual “Vote for your Favorite Shelter Dog” election during the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival, Aug. 8 to 10.
The nonprofit organization allows people to vote, by cash donation, to help the group pick the shelter dogs to be featured in their 2025 Shelter Dog calendar.
The dogs receiving the highest donations — or votes — will be selected for the calendar.
“This election can be bought,” said Phil Samuell, president of the Friends group. “All money raised will go to the shelter for the needs of the dogs.”
