Creta M. Barber, age 82, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Knox Community Hospital.

She was born on February 11, 1942, in Fredericktown, Ohio to the late Roy and Marion (Westler) Whirl. Creta was employed at The Heartland of Centerburg and also the Mount Vernon Country Club. She enjoyed mowing her lawn and making latch hook rugs. She was an animal lover at heart. Creta was very proud of her health and kept herself active. But most of all, she loved the time she spent with her family.

She is survived by her husband Reno Barber; her sons, Gilbert Carver, John (Kendra) Reffitt; her daughters, Debra (John) Ellison, Tammy (Jeff) Parker, Lisa (Tom Umphryes) Carver, Theresa (David) Petryka; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her brother David (Karen) Whirl; and her sisters, Brenda Sears, Janet Whirl, and Linda Carter.

In addition to her parents, Creta was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Jason Taylor, Addison Craft; her brothers, Bob and John Whirl; and her sisters, Marjorie Robbins, Marilyn Hess, Rheva Ridenbaugh, Madeline Meade, and Doris Stiltner.

Friends may call on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home from 11am – 1pm. A service will follow, beginning at 1pm, with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
