Edward Henry Brownell Erick, (Ed)age 84 went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2024. Born on March 6, 1940, in Sabina, Ohio, Ed lived a life full of love, honesty, and dedication.
Ed was the beloved husband and best friend of Sandy (Birkey) Erick, his high school sweetheart. They shared 62 years of a beautiful marriage, filled with love and companionship. To his children and grandchildren, he was a role model and affectionately known as “Bop”.

He is survived by his sons, Matt Erick (Tamara) and Scott Erick (Jennifer). He was a proud grandfather to Noah, Malea, Laurel, Jack, and Carson Erick. Ed also leaves behind his niece, Susan (Brown) DeMuth, and his nephew, Jeffery Brown.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry F. Erick and Portia (Brownell) Erick, and his sister, Sally (Brown) Erick.

A standout basketball player, Ed graduated from Newark High School in 1958, where he maintained the single-game scoring record for more than 25 years. He went on to graduate from Wittenberg University in 1962 and earned a master’s degree from The Ohio State University.

Ed dedicated his career to education and coaching. He taught history and was the head basketball coach at Heath High School until 1967 when he accepted the position of middle school principal in Fredericktown, Ohio. He served as principal for 29 years until his retirement in 1996. Even in retirement, Ed continued to work in the Knox County community as a sales associate at GR Smith Hardware.

Ed enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, running, reading, boating, water skiing, and sports. His passion for life and his commitment to his loved ones were evident in everything he did.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 11:00 am until the time of memorial service starting at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, located at 123 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, Ohio, with pastor Jerry Ernst officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fredericktown Alumni Scholarship Fund, continuing Ed’s legacy of supporting education and the community he loved.

Ed’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
