MOUNT VERNON — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine visited the Woodward Opera House on Wednesday.
The DeWines’ visit was in the wake of the statehouse’s $4 billion capital bill, which passed Wednesday.
Part of the bill includes funds for cultural and sports facilities, some of which are theaters and opera houses.
As part of celebrating The United States Semiquincentennial, DeWine said Ohio will offer an “Ohio Goes to the Movies” event showcasing movies featuring Ohio actors, directors, etc.
Woodward Opera House manager Dena Hess-McKinstry led the tour through the historic building, detailing its restoration process and fundraising plans for 2025.
Gov. DeWine said theaters are a great asset to Ohio, increasing the quality of life for residents.
On the capital bill, DeWine said money is there to restore theaters and stay functional.
In the 2025 statewide budget bill, DeWine said he expects money to be allocated for the arts.
“Ohio has a robust commitment to theaters,” DeWine said.
