Ruth Charlene Akers, age 82, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Knox Community Hospital. She was born on December 25, 1941, in Newark, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Bird) Hogan. Ruth worked at several medical facilities in Mount Vernon as a medical technician.

Ruth was a member of the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research. She enjoyed reading books written by Mary Higgins Clark and John Grisham. She also liked sewing, cooking, and doing crafts. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Akers, whom she married on August 26, 1976, a son, James Turner of Mount Vernon, a daughter, Virginia Turner of Mount Vernon and a stepson, Jason (Misty) Hogan of Mount Vernon, six grandchildren, Deidra Sumler, Carleena Kinds, Jonathan Gibson, Kenzie Stacy, Christina Renfro, and Bryceton Hogan, sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, Ketih (Catherine) Hogan of Dayton and good friends, Nora Phillips, Kathleen D. Giovanni (Katie), and Sharon Pash.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stella Hogan, and siblings, Stephen Hogan, Charles Hogan, James Hogan Sr., John Hogan, Charles Hogan II, Mary Hogan, and Melanie Thompson.

The family will observe private services. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Ruth Charlene Akers.
