Luanne Dunham was born February 5, 1951, to Harold Franklin and Kathryn Vulgamore Dunham in Mount Vernon, OH and died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, April 21.
Luanne was known for her readiness to travel. She thoroughly enjoyed her cruise trips and especially her recent visit to Egypt, the Middle East and India in 2022. She enjoyed many trips to interesting areas including Australia & New Zealand, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and various trips to Europe. She was a friend of the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario and attended the plays for many decades. Her friends knew her as an excellent traveling companion.

Similarly, Luanne was always eager to assist friends especially with their computer and smartphone issues. There was much in Luanne’s library and media background that carried over to the user experience of Information Technology. Luanne’s loyalty to friends was second to none and she could be counted on for support.

Luanne enjoyed watching the Buckeyes, Bengals, and Reds. When game moments seemed tense, she was sure to be pacing back and forth until the situation resolved.

Knowing Luanne meant you were also introduced to her pets. A long series of canine companions beginning with Jorg and ending with Benjamin. She could often be found walking her dog along a route consisting of East High, Clinton or Potwin and East Vine streets. She always had room for her feline companions with the most recent being Gabby and Roofus.

She graduated from Mount Vernon Senior High School in 1969 and Miami University in 1973. She worked as a student volunteer with librarians Rebecca Wareham (MVHS) and Pat Straker (Lane Public Library in Oxford, Ohio). She also did graduate study at Ohio State, Wright State, Ashland and Ohio Universities. She was a district media specialist at the Centerburg School District for nine years and held the same position at North Union Local School District for almost twenty-nine years. β€˜Ms. D’ or β€˜Luey’ as she was fondly called by both students and faculty brought an enthusiasm to assist and obvious professional talents to myriad school projects.

She was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Sorosis Club of Mount Vernon, Knox County Retired Teachers Association, and the Ohio Council of Teachers of English/Language Arts. She was a past secretary of OCTELA. She was a past president of the Centerburg Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, where she also served as treasurer, and the Mount Vernon Sorosis Club where she also served as secretary for many years.

She is survived by three brothers, Jon (Debra) of Mount Vernon, James (Ree) of Gambier and Dan (Buffy) of Three Oaks, Michigan and three nephews, Joel and Jeremy Kuhlman and Richard Langley and one niece Stephanie Langley. She was predeceased by her parents.
There will be a memorial service on June 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 North Gay Street in Mount Vernon with the Reverend Christopher Liberati officiating. The family will receive guests an hour before the service in the church parlor during which time a Delta Kappa Gamma necrology service will also occur.
