Danville's Lanna Staats was selected the Division IV Assistant Coach of the Year by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.

DANVILLE — Lanna Staats’ longtime service to the Danville girls basketball program hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Danville’s junior varsity and varsity assistant, Staats was selected the Division IV Assistant Coach of the Year by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. She was one of four assistant coaches across the state honored Wednesday morning.

“Coach Lanna Staats has been a major part of the Danville basketball program over the past 26 years,” Danville head coach Matt Proper said. “She has worked tirelessly during her coaching career to provide all of her student-athletes with a positive athletic experience.”

Danville was 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference this year. The Blue Devils tied for second in the KMAC standings with Cardington, a game behind KMAC champ Centerburg.

Danville won a sectional championship before falling to Fisher Catholic in the district semifinals.

Danville’s Ella Proper and Kylee Hess were both selected to the KMAC first team. Jaylyn Smith was a second-team pick and Grace Gronberg was an honorable-mention selection. Broegan Staats was Danville’s all-academic pick.

The Division I Assistant Coach of the Year was Bishop Watterson’s Mike Lanza. Canfield’s Patrick Pavlansky was honored in Division II, while South Point’s Todd Pennington was the Division III honoree.
