FREDERICKTOWN – Fredericktown Middle School’s 7th grade boys basketball team defeated Northmor 45-18 on Saturday to win the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference tournament championship on the Freddies’ court.
Fredericktown finished the season with a 17-1 record, 14-0 in league play. The only loss was to Licking Valley.
Team members earned high praise from coach Ben McClay.
“They are a really deep, tight-knit group of athletes who have a lot of height and speed,” said McClay, who previously coached the team in fifth- and sixth-grade Youth League play.
Team members worked on developing their skills during optional off-season workouts, as permitted by the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Their athletic abilities are complimented by their character, McClay emphasized.
“They are a well-rounded group with a great attitude. They are extremely coachable,” he said.
McClay also praised the support of team parents.
“Our parents have bought into the program, investing their time and effort,” he said.
Team members include: Nash Stull, Brock Bryant, Ethan Hunter, Zander Luckmeier, Harrison Kissel, Anthony Brooks, Laken Hunter, Brysen Synder, Tripp Hoelscher, Allen Swartzentruber, Maverick Blacksten and Landon Kanavel.
