DANVILLE – Recent in-school competition has determined the four students who will represent Danville Local Schools in next month’s Knox County Spelling Bee.
Ryleigh Harris emerged as the fifth-grade winner by correctly spelling “nighttime.” Kellyn Addair was runner-up.
The sixth-grade title went to Aubri Cottrell, who correctly spelled “reference” after five rounds. Hazel Doup was runner-up.

Caden Buckley claimed the seventh-grade championship by correctly spelling “disdain” in the sixth round. Runner-up honors went to Ana Avila.
Kaden Sanders emerged as the eighth-grade winner, correctly spelling “manual” in the seventh round. Cy Wallace was runner-up.
The Knox County Spelling Bee is facilitated by the Knox Educational Service Center (ESC) with financial support from the Mount Vernon Rotary Club.
The 2024 county bee will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Mount Vernon High School auditorium. The county commissioners will serve as judges.
Taylor Gingery, the ESC’s gifted and talented coordinator, will be the pronouncer.
