MOUNT VERNON —Knox Technical Center, the adult education branch of Knox County Career Center, will receive $200,000 in grant funding.
The money is expected to arrive in January. The grant comes from Ohio Super RAPIDS grants.
The $40 million available grant program was included in the state operating budget to support collaborative projects among qualifying institutions to strengthen education and training opportunities that maximize workforce development efforts through a one-time funding boost to the traditional RAPIDS program.Â
“The grant funds will be used to construct a storage facility on our medical program campus which will be used by our public safety programs,” KTC Director Kim Williams said.
“Fire/EMS departments have donated equipment including a medic truck (ambulance) and fire engine.
“This will enable us to house and store this equipment to keep the vehicles out of the weather and safe from vandalism, and to have a centralized and climate-controlled location in which to store our public safety equipment and supplies.”
The KTC board approved the expenditure for the storage facility at November’s board meeting, Williams said.
The storage facility will alleviate the loss of valuable class time due to the equipment being stored in various locations, on and off campus, Williams said.
It will also increase efficiency and use of time for instructors and students during training, Williams said.
