MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man is in custody after a woman was found dead in a North Mulberry Street home early Thursday morning.

Chad R. Taylor, 44, was transported to Knox County Jail at 6:43 a.m. and charged with aggravated murder.

As of Thursday afternoon, Taylor is being held without bond, according to a Mount Vernon Police Department press release.

At approximately 3:25 a.m., Mount Vernon Police Department officers responded to a reported stabbing at a residence in the 700 block of North Mulberry Street, the release states.

Upon their arrival, the officers entered the residence and located a single
female victim. The victim was deceased and alone.

Mount Vernon Police Department detectives were called to the residence along with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Officers also responded to a residence in the 700 block of West High Street where the
initial 911 call originated from. When officers arrived, they detained
Taylor as a suspect, the release states.

According to the arrest warrant, dispatch received a call stating “his son-in-law had showed up at his house and told him he had killed his girlfriend.”

According to the release, further details will be released as appropriate.

Following the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s identification will not be released at this time.
