MANSFIELD — Mount Vernon City Schools supt. William Seder has extended invitation to the comunity for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house event that marks the inauguration of the new school-based health center.

This initiative is the result of a collaborative partnership between Mount Vernon City Schools and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

The event will be on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the entrance to the Health Center at the South end of the High School adjacent to the Career Center.

Those in attendance will include:

  • Mayor Matt Starr, City of Mount Vernon
  • Superintendent William Seder Jr., Mount Vernon City Schools
  • Dr. Sara Bode, Medical Director, Nationwide Children’s Hospital School Health Services
  • Lori Schuler, Nurse Practitioner, Nationwide Children’s Hospital School Health Services

This will commemorate a new school-based health center that is opening at Mount Vernon High School.

In partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the district, the school-based health center will provide additional access to health care.

It is open to all Mount Vernon City School students and their siblings.

It is not meant to replace a child’s existing pediatrician but to provide help to those students who do not have a doctor.

Consent from the student’s parent/guardian is needed for their child to be seen at the center.

Appointments will be available during school and before and after school. Walk-in appointments may be available.

Parents and guardians are always welcome to be at the visit but don’t need to be. Staff will follow up with the parent/guardian after the visit to explain what took place and any needed follow-up.

“Join us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and see this new facility located inside of Mount Vernon High School,” Seder said.

“This school-based health center is a significant step towards enhancing the well-being of our students and the broader community. It will provide a range of services to promote the health and wellness of our students.

During the open house, those in attendance can tour the facility, meet the dedicated healthcare professionals who will be serving students, and learn more about the comprehensive services offered at the center.

“We believe that improved communication and collaboration between the school and the community are essential to the success of this initiative, and we value your input and support,” Seder said.

“We look forward to your presence at this important event as we continue our commitment to providing the best possible care and support for our students.”
