“A bright light is now gone from the world.” Barbara Kay Snow, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2023, at Riverside United Methodist Hospital. Barbara was born on Nov. 5, 1946, in Mt. Gilead, OH, to George and Evelyn (Brinnon) Jackson. She grew up on Green Haven Farm and graduated with the Mount Gilead High School Class of 1964.
Barbara was devoted to her family, her life an example of joy in the Lord, unconditional love, warm hospitality, and the kind of contentment spoken of in Philippians 4:12. She brought light, grace, warmth, and humor into every situation and every gathering. Left to mourn the loss, and yet celebrate her homegoing, are her children and their families: Brad and Dina Snow and their daughters Braelyn and Brianna; Lisa and Dan Yeager and their son Connor; and Brian and Melanie Snow and their children, Titus, Elisabeth, Elijah, Katharine and Susannah. She is also survived by her siblings and their families: Janet and Mike Tatevosian of Vernon Hills, IL; Bonnie and Lee Garrett of Portland, Oregon; and Marvin and Melissa Jackson of Corvallis, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband of 58 years, Harold (Hank) Snow, and by her grandson, Steven Yeager.
Barbara retired from the Country Club Retirement Center in 2020, lovingly caring for the residents as activities director for nearly twenty years. Prior to that, she served her family as a homemaker through all her children’s growing up years. She attended the Fredericktown First Baptist Church where her son, Brian, serves as Pastor, and was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. She grew up singing with her mother and sisters, and continued sharing that love of music as a charter member of the Dogwood Blossoms Chorus of Sweet Adelines. She held many leadership positions with the chorus and planned many a sequin-filled show. A faithful attendee of both her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and school activities, she also helped her husband, Hank, with many aspects of his long career as a Babe Ruth and Fall Baseball Coach/Manager. In recent years, she reconnected with many of her high school classmates for frequent get-togethers and had also begun volunteering at the Interchurch Social Services thrift store.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 30, from 5-7 p.m, at the First Baptist Church, 303 South Edgewood Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 (Gambier and Edgewood Roads). The funeral will take place at the church on Wednesday, May 31, at 11a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Interchurch Social Services.
