David Michael Smithhisler

David Michael Smithhisler, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.  He was born on November 20, 1940 in Loudonville to the late Luke A. and Agatha S. (Gardner) Smithhisler.

Mike honorably served his country in the Air Force.  He earned an Associated degree in Engineering Technology and retired from Bionetics in Heath. Mike was a faithful member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he was a Lecturer and a member of the choir.  He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 847 and had served as the council’s secretary, recorder, trustee and Past Grand Knight.  Mike was a member of the Father John Lamey Assembly 2970 Mount Vernon/Danville.   He was a member of the Heart of Ohio Barbershop Chorus, Colonial Classic Mount Vernon Chorus and the Kokosing Quartet. Mike will be remembered for being a loving husband, dedicated father and cherished grandfather.

Mike is survived by his wife, Carol (Pace) Smithhisler whom he married on October 14, 1967; sons, John (Lori) Smithhisler of Oconto, WI, Paul (Holly) Smithhisler of Johnstown, and David “Andy” (Jenn) Smithhisler of Massillon; grandchildren, Bailey, Brian, Katie, Jack and Alex; sister, Mary Rita Massaro of Wooster; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, James F. and Paul R. Smithhisler; and a sister, Angela Plant.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon.  The Rosary will be recited following the visitation and a Chalice and sword presentation will conclude the evening service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond and Rev. Father Homer Blubaugh as Celebrant.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
