Ruth Samples Shock, age 97, of Mount Vernon went to meet Jesus on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
She was born on January 29, 1926, in Elkview, West Virginia to the late William Hobart Samples and Pearl (Greenleaf) Samples. She graduated from Spencer High School in West Virginia and attended Charleston School of Commerce in West Virginia.
She married Harold E. Shock on November 15, 1947. They were the parents of two children, Stephen Edward Shock and Lisa Ann Shock-Tharp.
Ruth retired from the Mount Vernon City Schools and was a charter member of the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Jim) Tharp; her grandsons, Jeffery (Kelley) Shock, Benjamin Shock; her daughter-in-law Ruth M. Shock; four great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law Sarah Samples, Ruth Ann Perry and Edna Poole; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Harold Shock; her son Stephen Shock; her sister Helen Smith; her brothers Robert and James Samples; and her nephew Todd Smith.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home from 11am-1pm. A service will follow, at the funeral home, beginning at 1pm with Rev. Scott Sharpes and Pastor Frank Bolerjack officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the nurses, maintenance and management staff at the Ohio Eastern Star Home and also the private caretakers Yolanda Coyl and Judith Hall for their wonderful care and compassion for their mother.
