A couple of inches of snow that fell during the night Sunday may just be the precursor to what could be worse Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory for Monday night with more snow — and freezing rain.

The white stuff Sunday night led to school delays around the area Monday morning, though no new snow is expected during the day today.

Forecasters say a low pressure system will move northeast into the Ohio Valley tonight, extending a stationary front northeast across southern Ohio tonight.

The low pressure system will track along this front through Tuesday morning. Warmer air will ride up and over the colder air to the north, producing a mix of precipitation, including freezing rain.

The winter weather advisory area includes Ashland, Richland and Knox counties.

The advisory begins Monday at p.m. and extends until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Total new snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze are expected.

So plan on another interesting commute to work on Tuesday with additional slippery road conditions. Untreated sidewalks will also be slippery from accumulating ice.

By the way, winter doesn’t officially start until Saturday.
