MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon CROP Hunger Walk, held on Oct. 20, raised $3,500.
Seventy-five percent of the proceeds will go to Church World Service, primarily toward Third World development, and 25 percent to the food pantry at Interchurch Social Services. Church World Service is an ecumenical organization comprised of Protestant, Episcopal and Orthodox churches.
There were 23 people that walked the 3-mile route from Riverside Park to Public Square and back. Two other participants were stationed on the square and encouraged the walkers while sitting in rocking chairs.
The participants represented five churches: Faith Lutheran, Gay Street Methodist, and St. Paul’s Episcopal in Mount Vernon, and Harcourt Parish Episcopal in Gambier.
