FREDERICKTOWN — Members of the Fredericktown High School FFA chapter recently finished ninth in the District 7 food science competition at Zane Trace High School in Chillicothe.

As a part of the food science contest, participants must determine the flavors of various food items, as well as analyze three food samples and be able to tell which one is different.

They must also be able to identify various pieces of equipment and tell when and what it is used for, assess food product problems and determine whether there is safety or quality issues, and recognize aromas of spices and other flavoring components.

There is also an online test members must take for this event to compete and only the top 16 from each school may compete. The test consists of questions related to food handling, packaging, and basic knowledge.

The advisor of the Fredericktown FFA is Debra Burden.
