MOUNT VERNON — A winter weather advisory has been issued for Richland, Crawford, Ashland and Knox counties Thursday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The national weather service is reporting the forecast for Wednesday night is cloudy, with a low around 27. East winds reach from 7 to 11 mph.

On Thursday, rain showers, snow showers, freezing rain, and sleet are all expected before 4 p.m., then rain and snow showers between 4 and 5 p.m. Snow showers will be accompanied by freezing rain after 5 p.m. with a high near 33. East winds will blow from 8 to 11 mph.

The chance of precipitation is 100 percent% Little or no ice accumulation expected. However, new snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

On Thursday night, snow showers and freezing rain are expected before 7 p.m., then rain and snow showers are forecast between 7 and 11 p.m. Snow showers are likely after 11 p.m. The low will dip to around 30.

Light and variable winds could reach 8 to 13 mph after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. But new snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

The Ohio Department of Transportation crews in the area will be in beginning at midnight patrolling interstates, state and US routes in central Ohio with the winter weather advisories looming in the area.

Pavement temperatures are currently above freezing, but you should still allow yourself extra travel time tomorrow morning, ODOT stated. Crews will give special attention to ramps and bridges, since they freeze before surface roadways

ODOT said its crews will be working through the night to ensure a safe Thursday morning commute.
