One of the highlights of Flannel Fest, the annual fundraiser for Place 4 Grace, is the carnival games.

MOUNT VERNON — Place 4 Grace hosted its second annual fundraiser, Flannel Fest 2018, on Friday, Nov. 2.  The evening consisted of dinner, a ministry update and what Flannel Fest is famous for: carnival games.

Executive Director Kandee Popham addressed the crowd and detailed a story filled with miracle after miracle.  She told how the ministry went from $520 in its checking account in October 2017 to owning a $300,000 home with a 0% interest mortgage in March 2018.

Popham also shared stories of how the ministry has touched the lives of many people who have come in contact with Place 4 Grace by volunteering or offering their services. But it was the telling of a young girl that she has been working with that touched Popham the deepest.

“It has been this one single young lady God has brought into my life,” she explained to those attending Flannel Fest. “Place 4 Grace isn’t even open, and yet we have been able to reach out to her and minister God’s love to her. He has formed a special bond between her and I and her sweet baby.  He has used her to deepen my passion and stir a greater urgency within me for this ministry. I love her! I love her, not because of anything the world has done to her or says she is, but I love her because of what God has done for her and who He says she is.  She is His daughter. I don’t know if she can really grasp that yet?

“Think about that,” Popham continued. “She is the daughter of a mighty, powerful King. And this world does not treat her as such.  Don’t you think she deserves to know exactly who she is? I do. Place 4 Grace does, and we want to show her and everyone who comes after her.  Won’t you help us show each one?”

Popham said that reaching the ministry’s goal of $100,000 will put Place 4 Grace on track for a Mother’s Day 2019 opening.  So far, the group has raised $75,659.62. The plea was simple, asking donors to give on a monthly basis if possible to allow Place 4 Grace to earn the entire $10,000 being offered by an anonymous friend of the ministry.  The friend will match the first month of each gift set up as recurring monthly, with a one-time gift totaling up to $10,000.

“There is still time to give and your gift will be counted toward the match,” said Popham. “Donations may be made at Place4Grace.com/donate or mailed in to PO Box 283, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.”

Place 4 Grace is a Christ-centered home where unwed, pregnant young ladies will learn self-sufficiency and develop healthy family cycles through education and everyday living.  The goal is to end cycles of poverty, abuse, addiction, and unwed pregnancies.
