MOUNT VERNON – According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, the Grand Jury returned ten indictments on Monday. Arraignments in the cases will be held before Judge Otho Eyster in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas, on October 11 at 9 a.m.

Brian C. King, 43, and Joy L. King, 30, Fredericktown, were indicted on theft from the elderly charges for allegedly stealing money from a 79 year old Fredericktown woman, on August 6, September 4 and 10. After the first two dates the alleged victim reported thefts to the Fredericktown Police Department totaling $900.00 in cash, but she did not know who took the money from her residence. Thatcher said the FPD and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation installed surveillance cameras in the victim’s house which captured video of Brian and Joy King entering the residence, on September 10. The BCI video also allegedly shows Mr. King distracting the victim in conversation while Mrs. King takes cash from a wallet inside the victim’s purse. The Kings also face a burglary charge for the September 10 incident because they allegedly deceived the victim as to their criminal purpose for entering her residence. Lieutenant Roger Brown investigated the case.

Wanita L. Masters, 45, Mount Vernon, is accused of theft of checks, forgery and theft from an elderly person. Thatcher said on July 12, Masters allegedly stole three blank checks from a 70 year old Mount Vernon man, forged the writing on one of the checks and then cashed it at a grocery store. Patrolman Zachary Miller, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.

On August 15, Ronnie R. McCain, 35, Brinkhaven, was allegedly in possession of a stolen trailer valued at $3,000.00. Thatcher said the trailer was reported stolen in Ravenna, Ohio. McCain is accused of receiving stolen property. Sergeant Dan Weckesser, Danville Police Department, investigated the case.

On September 9, Jessie J. Majors, 34, Mount Vernon, allegedly walked out of a Mount Vernon store with two 50 inch televisions without paying for them. Later that day Sergeant Scott McKnight, MVPD, recovered the TV’s at a residence where he also found Majors hiding in a crawl space, in the basement. Majors is accused of theft.

Thatcher also reports five individuals were indicted on drug and drug related charges.

Sara A. Salyer, 33, Glenmont, was indicted on theft of drugs and endangering children charges. Thatcher said on August 20, Salyer allegedly told Detective Dan Bobo, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, that although she was filling her two children’s Adderall prescriptions, she was also abusing the drug herself rather than giving it to her children as prescribed.

Julie A. Gibson, 20, Mount Vernon, faces two counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drug and two counts of forgery. Thatcher said on August 4 and September 9, Gibson allegedly altered the quantity on Tramadol prescriptions by changing the “30” to “80.” The pharmacy where Gibson took the allegedly forged prescriptions reported the incidents to Patrolman Michael Wheeler, MVPD.

Jerry R. Lamb, 28, Mount Vernon, is accused of possessing heroin, on July 3. Patrolman Wheeler investigated the case.

Christopher L. Drake, 34, Fredericktown, is accused of possessing heroin, on August 23. Patrolman Kyle Johnson, FPD, investigated the case.

John H. Wilson, 51, Mount Vernon, is accused of possessing marihuana. Thatcher said on August 20, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office discovered several marihuana plants growing in the woods on Wilson’s Watson Road property during a marihuana eradication operation using aerial and ground units. BCI and officers with the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force assisted with the investigation.
