GAMBIER-Kenyon College’s Philander Chase Corporation has purchased the Tomahawk Golf Course property on Quarry Chapel Road. The sale was finalized last Friday, August 30 for $450,000.
Lisa Schott is the Managing Director of the Corporation but is on vacation and unavailable for comment. Golfers who have enjoyed playing at Tomahawk for many decades may be wondering what Kenyon will do with the property. Former owner Robin Hren says no one will be more disappointed if the property is no longer used as a golf course.
On the Philander Chase Corporation’s website, the purpose of its land acquisition is explained. “Growth and development are changing the landscape of the entire Mount Vernon area. It is imperative that Kenyon act, as necessary, to preserve the surroundings it so cherishes.”
Hren says golfers can continue to play the game they love at Tomahawk this season as long as the weather cooperates.
