Anna M. Chapman, age 91, of Fredericktown and formerly of Mount Gilead, passed away Tuesday morning, May 28, 2019, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon.
On June 29, 1927, Anna was born in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Martin Van Buren and Virgie (Fuller) Estep. She left school following 10th grade to marry the love of her life, John C. Chapman. They were married on April 4, 1945 in Greenup, Kentucky. They shared over 41 wonderful years as husband and wife before he preceded her in death on October 12, 1986.
For many years, Anna was a cook at The Gathering Inn in Mount Gilead.
Anna enjoyed bird watching, working in her flower gardens, cooking and baking. She loved spending time with her family and was especially fond of her little great-great grandchildren.
Anna will be dearly missed by her three children: John “Jack” Chapman of Johnstown, Beverly Carpenter of Fredericktown, Debbie Seymour of Bremerton, WA; six grandchildren: Julie Chapman, Shannon (Mike) Jackson, Kimberly (Bob) Campbell, Lori (Jim) Stambaugh, Stacy Curtis, Tori Seymour; eight great grandchildren: Meghann, Michael, Michelle, A.J., Calistia, Lance (Sara), Kenlee (Tyler), Dalton; and two great-great grandchildren: Karsyn and Cirus.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers: LeRoy and Kenneth Estep; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Carpenter.
Anna’s family will greet friends from 1 -2 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Services to honor and celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jimmy Thompson officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
