FREDERICKTOWN -- A 49-year-old Columbus man was charged with felony counts of forgery and passing bad checks after he was arrested at the First Knox National Bank on Wednesday.
According to a press release from Fredericktown police, Field N. Harris tried to cash a fraudulently-created business check just before 3 p.m. Bank employees became suspicious and contacted police.
Officers Josh Jones and Ronny Flynn responded and began an investigation, resulting in the arrest of Harris, who police said has an extensive criminal history.
Harris was taken to the Knox County Jail, pending a court appearance.
Fredericktown police Lt. Kyle Johnson credited the bank employees for identifying the attempted fraud and contacting authorities.
