Diana Wetzel, Executive Director, marked the 30 th Anniversary celebration with stories of the past as well as a vision for the future.

MOUNT VERNON -- Knox Starting Point marked its 30th year of serving the young women and men of Knox County at its annual fundraising banquets.

New Life Church of the Nazarene hosted overflow banquet crowds on consecutive nights, April 11 and 12.

This year’s theme, “A Legacy of One,” highlighted not only the unique and precious value of every individual life but also the power of “one” to make a difference in the community.

Through video testimony, numerous voices from Starting Point’s history reflected on key turning points. The celebration culminated in a touching video tribute to the journey of Starting Point clients, past and present, produced and directed by Matt Starr of Kokosing River Productions.

Diana Wetzel, new Executive Director and keynote speaker, offered a moving testimony of her own journey from unexpected pregnancy to marriage, motherhood and a career devoted to educating and empowering teens and young adults. She was introduced by previous Executive Director, Kassandra Baker, whose tenure included the addition of limited medical services and the expansion of Starting Point’s facility and staff.

Starting Point is a faith-based organization that provides life-affirming help for teens and young adults who are facing an unexpected pregnancy, making decisions about relationships, or feeling the effects of a past pregnancy choice. Through research-based education, material assistance and limited prenatal services provided at no cost, Starting Point mentors offer individuals and young families a strong community of support.

“This mission of life was conceived in the heart of God, and He is the reason we stand in awe,” stated Wetzel. “My prayer is that donors and volunteers of this ministry will take joy in the knowledge that Starting Point’s legacy is a reflection of their own passion and service.”

Since its 1989 launch with one part-time staff member, Starting Point has cared for thousands of local teens and young adults.
