MOUNT VERNON β€” Knox County Keep America Beautiful will assist the Mount Vernon Municipal Court Probation Department in completing two litter cleanup projects in the county. The cleanup will take place Saturday from 9:30 am to 2 pm.

David Priest, chief of probation, will supervise an event to clean Coshocton Avenue from the Nazarene church to the entrance of Opportunity Knox. Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention will supply bags, gloves and trash disposal for this event. Priest has invited the Mount Vernon City Police to assist by providing backup with water and safety services while cleaning Coshocton Road. The following groups have been invited to participate:

  • Riverside Recovery Services
  • Elk Lodge 140
  • The Veterans Group
  • VFW
  • Knox County Mental Health
  • Knox Community Hospital
  • The Wellness Center
  • BHP Case Manager Services

The Knox County Probation Department will also be doing an Adopt-A-Highway on Ohio 314 in conjunction with the Lions Club within this same time frame.

The following local fast food restaurants and businesses on Coshocton Avenue are sponsoring this event and providing water and lunches for some of those volunteering:

  • Chipotle Mexican Grill (Dallas Durfee)
  • Wendy’s (Josh)
  • WalMart (Bert)
  • Subway (Erica Taylor)
  • Rural King
  • Long John Silvers
  • McDonalds
  • Hardees

“We really appreciate the support these local businesses have provided for this first-time event to clean up the shopping area,” said Randy Canterbury of Randy Canterbury, Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention. “It shows that the local businesses have an interest in keeping the shopping area clean for their customers.”
