MOUNT VERNON - The Mount Vernon Players, Knox County’s oldest continuous running theater organization is presenting the well-known play by D.L. Coburn, “The Gin Game”. It won several Tony awards its original run, and its revivals featuring James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson.
It will be presented as a dinner theater production at The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel, downtown Mount Vernon on the Square on October 20, 21 at 7:30, with dinner at 6:30, with two Matinee performances on Saturday the 21st at 2:30 and Sunday October 22.
The storyline features two older Americans who meet at a retirement home. The man and woman strike up a friendship, and explore the trials they have each faced, and how each one is impacted by this lost stop on Life’s Journey. It is a drama with its fair share of “lighter” comedic moments as they each explain their life’s travails to one another.
It stars local actor Robert Ernest Bennett, and relative newcomer Mansfield’s Lillie Shelby, and is Directed by Jim Stoner, who is past President of the Mount Vernon Players, and is best known for having written “The Black Cyclone," the story of Charles Follis, the first black professional football player in America.
