what is every ones thought on this ?

In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves

Have you seen what these kids are wearing to school lately? Might not be a bad idea!

This would severely impact those that have lost their jobs and or struggling in this economy. Their children will need completely new wardrobes and that can be quite pricey. I do believe there should be restrictions on some clothing choices, as some push the envelope on their attire.

As someone who sends their kids to private school where uniforms are required, I spent approx. $75 - $90 a year for uniforms that last the entire school year. Granted I have boys but I generally buy 2 - 3 prs ($10 - $15) pants and 3 - 4 shirts ($8 - $10). And that is the cost at most places, even uniform stores. Most people have other issues related to uniforms in public schools but I can assure you that uniforms are WAY CHEAPER than the standard clothing purchased before school starts.

Another economical advantage for people that are strapped financially is that outgrown uniforms can be passed down or bought for a fraction of the cost.

I was going to post this earlier but I got a customer. I can't wait till this goes into effect for good! It will make my life so much easier!!!! I know Johnstown implemented the same thing a year or two ago and it has been a pretty big hit, its called "Johnnie Wear." I have 2 kids, one in 1st grade and one that will be entering Kindergarten next year. To be able to have simple outfits they have to wear everyday and it not being a war or what am I going to wear I will love it. Will it be a little expensive probably not as much as people think. You can get a yellow jacks t-shirt at the local shops for 8 bucks and you can go to goodwill to get collared shirts. The kids can still wear whatever after school but in school it will take some of the distraction away. I'm all for it.

I have to say that uniforms take away some of the craziness that goes on in the morning, too, about "what do I wear". Mornings were simple and easy with no fanfare about clothing.

All of my kids have said that they didn't mind not having choices. It made their life easier.

exactly! at the end of the year parents could turn their too small uniforms into the school and get a credit towards next year. I know at Johnstown the kids can still wear all their sports/club shirts that also cuts down on cost and shows school spirit. I think it will be way cheaper to buy a max of 5 outfits compared to a whole school year worth and KMART has layaway :)

I think it's bull they have a dress code now that kids grip about, and at lease it will start the school year of 2011-2012 school year.I wonder if they will want up parents to be dressed the way they want for when we pick our kids up .I don't get out of the car when i pickup my child so i will be wearing my everyday clothes and i get out of my car when i need to go into the school.

Am neither pro nor con on this issue - can see both sides - but would like to discuss it by considering how it will help or hinder the learning atmosphere of the school - that should, imo, be the first consideration as opposed to whether or not it "makes parents' lives easier."

This IS about the kids, right? Their lives? Their learning atmosphere?

geez.............

I'm pretty sure it will help the learning environment.... it makes it more of a group than an individual person. Instead of worrying about betty sue's cleveage hanging out the boys can actually look at the teacher and in the elementary schools it will help all the kids be one and worry about whose clothes are nicer. I don't remember it being a big deal when I was a kid but some of the things I have heard kids say when at my son's school amaze me... I think it will be a good change. The kids can still wear whatever after school and all summer long but uniforms during the day will let the focus be more on education.

There are studies that show that uniforms actually help a child's academic performance. I also think that it takes the stress out of whether or not you have the latest greatest styles for school. Parents have to buy clothes on a regular basis regardless, and as earlier stated. If there is a local dress code it is very easy to go to the goodwill or get hand me downs from acquaintances. I think it is a great idea. Anything that makes l;ife less stressful for parents in the end is better for the kids, and if it takes pressure off the kids to have the latest brand names then I think that will help the children also.

I do not have a problem with a more proactive Standardized Dress over a reactive Dress Code. It's much clearer and less room for interpretation. According the the MVNews article, the high school has had 200 dress code violations so far this year, taking away time from students, teachers, and administration. It really shouldn't be that hard to know what is appropriate to wear, but apparently some people need things spelled out clearly.

But, if what I've read and heard is true, I think this might be a bit too restrictive.

I don't see denim pants as an issue, make it clear holes will not be tolerated. Solid colored shirts only, why no stripes?

I would hope there would be plenty of time given to parents and area stores to prepare, not to mention charitable organizations such as InterChurch.

Am going to do a lot more research on this, but the more I think about this, the less I like it.....

I did some quick googles and scanned a few reports and am not seeing any evidence that dress codes improve scholastic scores - the results seem to be mixed

If there's no solid evidence that test scores actually improve with restricted dress rules, then I'd be against such a code....stifling choices and individuality in our youth, who are going to be making choices all their lives, doesn't seem a wise move to make....and without proof of improved learning, such a code is no more than trying to create a bunch of little 'bots............designed to make the lives of teachers and parents "easier" - but does nothing to improve the learning capabilities of the students -

will keep an open mind though and keep reading, as time permits

mtnmama,

I think the reason for the no jeans rule is to show the buisiness casual side of things... I wouldnt mind if they added the jeans back in or left them out. I think the issue is that there are so many different style of jeans and what is acceptable to one person may not be another.

clearview,
While you have already bought your child clothes you have to reinvest to the latest styles every year wear if it was a uniform system you would only have to update when they grow and then you could sell the old ones to someone else. I don't really think the money thing is that big of an issue because I believe the schools are looking at a voucher system for those who need it and will probably work with companies to make it the prices decent.
