- The Knox County Health Department will offer H1N1 flu shots to seniors at the Senior Wellness Clinic on Wednesday, March 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Foster’s Pharmacy in Centerburg. Free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol will also be available as originally planned. The H1N1 shot is free. The vaccine is available to anyone regardless of age or medical conditions. The Senior Wellness Clinics are designed for people over age 60 and are sponsored by the Knox County Health Department. Services are offered on a walk-in basis. An appointment is not necessary. In addition to the screenings, a registered nurse is available to review medications and provide education on medicines and illnesses. The cholesterol test is non-fasting, but participants are encouraged to fast to be able to get an accurate triglyceride reading. The screening also indicates HDL and LDL levels. Clients will receive a paper printout of their test results that they can take to their doctor if follow up is necessary. Senior citizens attending the clinic who do not have a doctor will be referred to the health department medical staff for follow up. Funding for the Senior Wellness Clinics is provided in part by the health department levy and the senior services levy. For more information, contact the health department medical clinic at 399-8009.
