A little about hemp:
Its durability unparalleled. Until the advent of synthetics, cannabis hemp was the standard fiber of the world. In fact, the word "canvas" derives from "cannabis." Hemp is being used today by hundreds of businesses around the world - The Body Shop, Patagonia, Armani, Calvin Klein, BMW, GM/Canada and Mercedes Benz to name a few.

Hemp is durable
It's several times stronger than cotton. It's more resistant to abrasion and tears. It's more resistant to mildew, soiling, shrinkage and the deteriorating effects of the sun.
Hemp is renewable
Hemp grows throughout the world without pesticides or herbicides and naturally fertilizes the soil for future crops.
Hemp can be cultivated in as little as 100 days compared to the 50-500 years it can take to grow a tree.
10,000 acres of hemp can produce as much paper as 40,000 acres of trees. It makes superior paper and is considered archival in quality. Hemp produces three times as much fiber per acre as cotton without the pesticide and herbicide use.
Hemp's long tap root and nutritious qualities make it a natural for crop rotation. In fact, Hemp crops are being used in the outlaying regions of Chernobyl, in Ukraine, to leach out the radioactive soil and, in turn, rejuvenating and fertilizing the soil naturally.

Hemp has more than 25,000 uses, including paper, plastics, composites, food, fiberboard, healthy cosmetics, paints, varnishes, clean burning fuels, solvents, fiberglass, textiles and more.
The Declaration of Independence was drafted on hemp paper.
Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were hemp farmers and advocated hemp cultivation for the very survival of the American colonies. In fact, there was a hemp tax on landowners because of its versatility as lantern oil, cooking oil, lubricants, fabric, rope and more.
Henry Ford built a car body using hemp and other agricultural resources to demonstrate the contribution farmers could make to American manufacturing.

Hemp oil is the richest known source of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (the "good" fats). It's quite high in some essential amino acids, including gamma linoleic acid (GLA), a very rare nutrient also found in mother's milk.
Hemp has been grown for the last 12,000 years for fiber (textiles and paper) and food.
Biodegradable plastics and Styrofoam made using hemp oil instead of petroleum derivatives are at the cutting edge of technology.

According to David West, PhD, "The THC levels in industrial hemp are so low that no one could ever get high from smoking it. Moreover, hemp contains a relatively high percentage of another cannabinoid, CBD, that actually blocks the marijuana high. Hemp, it turns out, is not only not marijuana; it could be called 'antimarijuana.

In a July 1998 study issued by the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Kentucky, researchers concluded that Kentucky hemp farmers could earn a net profit of $600 per acre for raising certified seeds, $320 net profit per acre for straw only or straw and grain production, and $220 net profit per acre for grain only production. The only crop found to be more profitable was tobacco.

| bmx - your point is well made. Sadly our cave men in leadership have already brainwashed the public and the companies fearing such a rival will block it as long as possible. At least until they buy up the technology to take advantage. All things cheap MUST be made more expensive. One of these days they will be selling oxygen devices you must have or die. |

Hemp is a great fabric. Very durable, and naturally antibacterial. Also hemp oil is rich in Omega 3s and has been proven to help with ADD and ADHD.
Of course you can make tons more money on the chemicals and drugs like ritalin (think I spelled that wrong.
If we legalized it think of all the tax dollars we could make taxing the heck out of it, instead of all the money we spend keeping people in jail etc.
I have NEVER used pot, and do not intend to, but I have nothing against it, personally. |

We have shelled hemp seed in the fridge. Use it on top of salads, ect
It has 11 grams of protein in two tablespoons. Great for a vegetarians diet.
Its legal, buy it at the health food store "Down to earth"
Taste great! Like a nut.
I think the plant should be legal too.

To avoid any confusion, pot and hemp are not the same. Industrial hemp can't get you "high" unless you smoke a joint the size of a telephone pole. Good luck doing that.

OMG of course hemp and marjuana are not the same thing. It was simply stating that growing HEMP is this country is NOT LEGAL, neither is POT.
We SPENDS millions if not BILLIONS trying to keep people from growing POT and in the process they also destroy and obliterate HEMP.
Hemp has virtually no THC, so no you can not get high on it.
Still, I have NO problem making pot legal. I simply suggested that we make money off it instead of spending money on it. HEMP is a great product, fiber, fabric, oil, and seed. |
