This shouldn't be legal.

Yeah right...it doesn't cost the "district" anything...Like it's OK to suck it out of us tax payers to pay for their high-priced attorneys from Columbus. |

IMO the school board is worse than the IRS. If you happen to have a damn dollar in your pocket the board smells it & comes after it. I also wanted to remind people than when the disrtict comes after us to make up for the money they wasted on the Freshwater mess, You know they will. We need to remind them that they have a $6,000,000.00 RAINY DAY FUND. They did the rain dance that caused the flood so the dristrict can pay for it. |

I would like to know how much of our tax money was spent on the whole Freshwater ordeal, does anyone know? Or maybe I don't want to know, I'd probably smash my computer!!! I'm glad we paid attorneys 100k so the victim could get 5k.

The Auditor's office reports the sales of properties to the school district on a regular basis. Let's say for the sake of argument that you are interested in purchasing a piece of real estate and that the Auditor has that property appraised at $50,000. If you purchase the property at an arms length sale (unrelated parties willing to sell and willing to purchase for an agreed price) for $75,000, the Auditor can raise your appraised value to $75K or the school board may request that your appraised value be raised to $75K. That will of course result in higher property taxes.
From a tax appeal standpoint it is very difficult for the purchaser who pays more than the appraised value to ask the Auditor not to raise the taxes on the property. Remember that purchasing properties at foreclosure sales are not considered arms length sales.
By the same token if you purchase a property at a price lower than the current appraised value at an arms length sale then you are certainly justified in requesting a reduction in your appraised value to reflect the sales price. |

| Like it or not, schools are funded through property taxes. That LAW states that you will pay the tax based on the assessed value of your property. If you are paying on an amount less than the assessed value of the property, you are not contributing your fair share. Don't blame those who enforce the law. If you don't like it, get the law itself changed. |

Well, since the Ohio Supreme Court ruled years ago that Ohio's school funding system is unconstitutional and our legislators have pretty much ignored it, I doubt I would have much luck in changing it any time soon. But, I am a voter armed with a NO vote for any new school levies. It's only a matter of time before they ask for more. |
