just so all know...there is a lot more to Morrow county issues than meets the eye..starting .long ago..

MAN!!! If I were an officer and was reading this form I would seriously consider getting another job like oh I don;t know since there are none. Back to what I was saying if I were an officer and reading some of the solutions that people are coming up with cut my wage to 8.00hr here's your gun it jambs every now and then, (we cant afford a new one or buy your own on 8.00/hr) here's your "bullet proof" vest it expired in 1990(they only cost $600-$800 remember 8.00/hr) and oh by the way you no longer have any benefits so don't get shot and don't get hurt while your out patrolling the county by your self. Just remember when you call for back up because you are in the fight for your life this is what you will here...........silence..........) I would whistle to work every morning. Yeah I guess some people are right there is a long line of people standing in line to run in to a burning house for 8.00 an hour, or pull over that drunk person who just got out of prison and says he's never going back no matter what. I guess that "cushy" job is just fat needing to be cut.

Thank you to all the county workers of Knox County! I would like them to know that there are some people out here who care.

Shut down all non-chartered projects...cut all salaries by 10%....cut all pensions by 10%...my guess is you will have a 50-60% budget surplus...then cut taxes

Sure...........then watch the unions' attorneys descend on Knox County, dragging it into Federal Court for years and years..............the cost? The Freshwater mess would seem like a drop in the bucket by comparison

yeah, that's the ticket NRM - we'll get right on it

You can't "cut salaries or benefits" of union employees without breaching a contractual obligation

In any event layoffs and less working hours would be the first to occur - anyone on here wish to do with less patrolmen and detectives? how about less employees to help the prosecutor's office do it's job? I know, how about fewer Court employees, so that the criminal, civil and domestic complaints couldn't be processed as quickly, there was less time to hear cases in Court so the docket backs up.......better yet, with a slow docket criminal cases couldn't be heard as quickly and some might be dismissed.........divorces and civil cases could take a few more years to work their way through that same system - everyone in favor of that? hm?

then, of course, we could do as NRM suggested - unilaterally breach union contracts across the board, and employer/employee contracts to boot, and invite all SORTS of lawsuits to be brought against the Commissioners, the Sheriff, and everyone ELSE who would be dense enough to believe that one doesn't have to live up to one's contractual obligations.

Yeah, that's it NRM - let's slow down the system, put people's lives at risk, perhaps be forced to drop criminal charges, AND invite the unions to sue the crap out of the county if we follow your suggestions....

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

so CM, in a recession, how come we would have "no detectives, no courts, wells would be dry..." when the taxes from last year are the same as this year? Is it because retirement benefits increased? Can't cops work for the same wages they made last year since many on here are earning LESS THAN LAST YEAR???

Your approach to tax and spend without accountability is the reason this mess exists in the first pace.

...oh, and of course politicians will increase taxes...and a whole bunch of us are thumbing oour noses and saying "we aren't paying anymore"...good luck...hell, raise the tx to 100% you won't get anymore money...real Americans stand against all theft, conducted by citizens or government goons

The employees of this county including "cops"did make the same or less than last year because they had to take furlough days.......

I was'nt trying to scare anybody, what would be the point? I was expressing my opinion thourgh the view point of an officer and how he or she might feel. I feel that my job as a citizen is to try and find as many facts as I can, and not post non-sence. I try to be as factual and real as possible with out bashing anyone. If I started a bashing competition then I would have the attitude of a 14 yr old. I still don't understand how layoffs and cuts is going to help anything? When they layoff people then they still have to pay unemployment. If things turn around and they will eventually then those people that have been laid off may have found other jobs that may be more stable, when they do deside to rehire then those that are hired will have to be retrained and how much money does that cost, especially a uniformed officer.

...and your contention that "when this turns around" is another issue...pride preceedith the fall...nothing at all is being done to turn the economy around...nothing...and you support raising taxes on a group who is the 3rd most taxed residents in the entire country???? 47 states are taxing their citizens less than you are...what say you?

...at the same time the feds are about to slam us all with 15-20% base tax increases, to pay for the failed "stimulus" proposed "healthcare" cash for clunkers (oh yeah remember, we the taxpayers owe $3Billion for that fiasco, and now a touted 15% Value Added Tax (that is simply a net 15% sales tax...making Knox county around 22% coming soon.

This is not about 1/4% being a small amount, it is about pronciple and solving problems.

Interesting - no response from the Commissioner's office yet....that could mean one of two things:

1. They're still consulting on how to answer my questions, or

2. They have no answers.............

will give it a bit more time..........

p.s. never mind - seems to be a PAID holiday - they obviously haven't given those up in these harsh economic times...............

p.s.s. the more I think about this, the more disgusted I become - the Commissioners, demanding that all county offices come up with a 20 percent reduction in expenses, are sitting home today, being paid to sit at home today, rather than foregoing that holiday pay and working on a SOLUTION to the fact that the county's broke? (because of THEM)?

oh wow..............I'd like to see them justify this one

Make sure that current workers pay an additional 10% into their own retirement as well.

Also, the retirement funds can be used by the city for current bills. Then, "when" the economy recovers (as all of the government workers here says will happen) the money can be returned to the retirement account.

Put your money where your mouth is

nrm Apparently you don't understand. When you retire from Public Service the County no longer pays anything....the State pays from the employee’s personal account. Also Public employees pay a LARGER portion from each of their paychecks into their retirement accounts than civilians do! PS. What is this “lucrative Retirement” you mention. What do you think a fireman or police officer gets when they retire after 25 years risking their lives? How much a year? How much do you think public employees get upon retirement? Also public employees do not pay into social security so we don’t get that either!

Hey CM I just did some math and I think it will really set you off. If the Commissioners work 16 hours a week with 2 weeks off they have 800 hours for year. $43000.00 / 800 =
$ 53.75 per hour... If they work 20 hours a week with 2 weeks off they make $ 43.00 per hour. They don’t have to worry, their wages are protected by State Laws unlike their fellow county employees. So even if our county goes down the toilet they will still get theirs! Now I see why they value their positions dearly. Who would want to give up a guaranteed income?

I'm happy to say that I just received a email from Commissioner Bemiller and she and Commissioner Stockberger have offered to have a meeting to sit down and answer all the concerns I sent to them in my email.

I will do so - if you have more questions, shoot them to me, and I'll include them in my list, okay? Better yet, join me ..........

Am glad there is open communication going on here - have liked Ms. Bemiller since she took office, and have more respect for her than ever now.
