Firemen do not risk their lives for 25 years. Your odds of being seriously injured in the line of duty are pretty close to that of a welder and even less than a construction worker. That is simply fact.

When you sit on your fat ass and collect thousands of dollars a month, and then say that people who can't afford to eat should pay even more in taxes so you can stay sitting on your fat ass makes you a loser piece of ****.

Let's start there.

I agree I don't know anything about nrm, can someone please tell me about him and his contributions???The only thing I know for sure is he likes to cuss and call people names.
You also my friend do not know anything about me and MY CONTRIBUTIONS!! You my friend are the one who wants to make things personal and insult me and what I do !PS I wasn't always a fireman, and I'm not retired.

Well I don't like to toot NRM's horn, it really goes against all of my morals and ethics, but I do have to say that I know him, and I do know that he has given more to this country than you can imagine. Putting your life on the line, fighting for our country, deserves the highest respect, in my opinion. Not to mention, having a child who follows in those footsteps. Don't get me wrong, I do believe firefighters put their lives in danger at some point. My father was a VOLUNTEER firefighter for 35 years. But I tend to agree with NRM, which is something else that goes against my morals and ethics.
Until you are stripped down to the bare bones, don't ask for those of us who have been stripped down (not all by choice) to cough up more money.
My hubby didn't get a raise this year, 1st time in 20 years. And he gets NO sick time. If he doesn't work, he does not get paid.

What if nothing exists and we're all in somebody's dream? Or what's worse, what if only that fat guy in the third row exists?

Believe me if anyone deserves respect and gratitude it is the veterans and active military personel of this Country!!!!!
Why would someone want to insult me, my integrity and my contribution to society without knowing anything about me or what I've done. Read back and you will see who insults people just because they have a different point of view. Thats one of the freedoms we have because so many have sacrificed for this country. NO one deserves to be insulted and called names because of a difference of opinion!!!!

NRM is one of those people who sacrificed quite a bit for his country, and he DOES deserve your respect for THAT. And I think he insults you because that is one of the rights that he fought for. Freedom of speech. Just because he thinks you are something, doesn't make it true. That is his opinion. You do not have to respect his opinion, for that is YOUR right. I will bust NRM's chops until the cows come home, but I will never question his contribution to this country.

Everyone holds different opinions on who is to blame for our country’s state and our county’s state. I hold Obama and the Senate responsible for the national problems we are having. I hold the Commissioners responsible for our countys state. I look at all the things our taxes pay for and what we get back in return.
How much money have we spent on Port Knox International Airport in the last few years? We extended the runways, built new buildings, Paving, fenced the whole thing in with chain link and other improvements. How many new businesses did it bring in?

We purchased the land on Fairgrounds Road for $600,000.00+ that only appraised for $166,660.00. WHY?
How much money is put into the fairgrounds from the County budget yearly for a 1 week fair?
How much do we get back yearly from it?
Where does all the money go that the fair makes?

There are many other things the county pays for but is our investment in them worth the return?

I'm sure there are ways to cut cost in each department including furloughs and 4 day weeks/extended hours. Hopefully they can find a way to meet these cuts and not lay off employees.
NRM is right, things ARE going to get worse. Hopefully our county can weather the storm...

It's deeper than that. For the first time in the history of America, the majority openly supported a socialist. The majority made it clear that they have no problem taking money from "the rich" and distributing among themselves.

That is the problem, and that is going to be the death of America.

Once 51% of the population can vote to steal from 49% of the population...game over.

We are absolutely, 100% at the end of Freedom...America is no longer a free nation, Entrepeneurs are now targets of taxation and thus will not invent, will not create employment....the dream of America is over.

That is where we are....the sooner the tax takers realize that, the longer we will be able to continue living without a new civil war...but I have a feeling that is coming sooner than any of us want to believe.

Unfortunatly for the country I agree, the country is headed in the wrong direction and I too feel a breeze of "Civil War" coming...

APA - you had had a few questions last week for the Commissioners, and I had sent them to their office via email, along with some of my own - they sent a reply Friday - I'm late posting their response because I was out of town most of the weekend......so they're not slow in their reply - I'm behind in posting it - sorry, guy In any event, here are their answers, in their entirely

1) Have the Commissioners donated any money back to the General Fund because other county employees had to?

ANSWER: Commissioners complied with the mid-year appropriation reduction and actually de-appropriated more than the 9% requested of all other General Fund Departments. For example the Commissioners budget was decreased by 17% and the Buildings & Grounds budget was decreased by 21%. For the year 2010, all General Fund Departments were requested to decrease by approximately 20%, Commissioners have preliminarily reduced budgets under their control by 22%.

2) Have the Commissioners decided to forego their raises for this and next year?

ANSWER: All Elected Official Salaries are set by the Ohio Revised Code. Any Elected Official taking office in 2008 will not be receiving a raise for the entire 4-year term.

3) Given the seeming acceptance by a vast majority of the local residents, will the Commissioners move to quickly instate the ¼% sales tax increase?

ANSWER: Any discussion of increasing the sales tax at the current time is premature. The Board of Commissioners is conducting preliminary budget hearings and will not know until those have been completed, the exact amount of shortfall, if any, that remains. Currently, the Commissioners have received a low number of responses regarding the possibility of a proposed sales tax increase and of those there have been an equal number of positive as negative. Enacting the sales tax is more complicated than it may appear to the public. There are statutory steps which must be taken, which would include public hearings and if enacted, would be subject to referendum by the public.

4) Exactly WHAT cuts have the Commissioners proposed to their own budget?

ANSWER: As stated in question 1 above, the Commissioners have more than complied with the 20% reduction requested of all General Fund Departments. The Commissioners have reviewed the budgets under their control line-by line and made cuts accordingly. For example: capital improvements will be held to a minimum in 2010 in addition to implementing cost-saving measures to save on utility expenses.

The Commissioners continue to appreciate the input from constituents and are working diligently to resolve the 2010 budget issues.

Two thumbs up for their willingness to communicate with the public

Chicago sounds like Florida, they taxes their guest to an extreme extent.

California sales tax is also around 10%. Everyone talks about how broke the state is, while visiting this summer I saw no short fall of people shopping, eating out, and enjoying the entertainment industry.

No, I stayed with a friend, not in a touristy area.

NRM, I'm glad you keep saying that the county budget problem arises from the fire and police retirements. Have you ever considered that the budget problem has come from some bad spending habits on the commissioners part or the bad budgeting from the past auditor. If you think the retirement package is so great for the fire or police why don't you get in on the force.

Your theory is compared to saying, to get rid of the naitonal debt, lets cut back on the veterans benefits. Which I would never ask anyone to do.
