Ok now that we've all received our Biblical lesson, can we now get back on topic?

Does anyone else find it ironic that when we're trying to discuss anything regarding our schools that it comes back down to pushing religion, one way or another?

Yep. The on-going legal battle has had quite an influence on this community - and, might I add, not a positive one

In any event, I voted for individuals who I believe have only one agenda - creating an atmosphere for the kids that focusses on a quality secular education -

Here are a couple of observations. Thought I would write them down as they caused me to pause and made me think.

1. The same people who put out the sign that said something like, "Keep the Bible, the kid has to go" on St. Rt. 13 have blown up giant size signs supporting Thompson and Kirk. These are the people that have the Joy Wagon and they attended the first series of Freshwater hearings and do support John.

2. Today I rec'd a flyer with both Thompson and Kirk on it. Does anyone else wonder why they are running as a ticket? Has this ever occurred before in a School Board election? Does this seem odd to anyone else?

3. If they aren't both supporting John Freshwater, how is it that Thompson's and Kirk's signs are the ones that John's church has put out in the open lot beside the church?

4. I believe there have been at least 2 times where Thompson and Kirk have both been involved in a "Meet the Candidates" where they have been the only two invited. One at Apple Valley, the other at Trinity Assembly. Is that because they are trying to establish their support base? Or are they discussing topics in those meetings that they don't want the general public to know about?

I did get a litle more information with regard to Kirk's time on the East Knox school board. Kirk was appointed in 2000 (I believe that was the right year) to fill the seat vacated by Delores Bobo (sp?). I don't know if there had to be a special election but I believe he ran unopposed to finish the unexpired term in 2001. He became president of the East Knox Board but when running in the 2003 regular election, he was soundly defeated along with 2 other board members.

The yard I find most telling has a Fehrman, Kirk, Thompson sign along with a ten commandments sign and an old faded "we support John Freshwater" sign.

As I went through last Friday's newspaper flyer with vignette's of those running for office, it was interesting to see familiar faces among the people running for various offices as they have attended the Freshwater hearings and/or been connected with John Freshwater during the past year and a half.

Tyler Fehrman, running for Council at Large (MTV) attended several hearings and was part of the group that was there in support of John.

William Pursel, running for Monroe Township Trustee, attended several hearing and was part of the group that was there in support of John. Mr. Pursel is also Andrew Thompson's (Steve Thompson's son) father-in-law.

Steve Thompson, running for School Board (MTV), has spoken on behalf of John in School Board meetings, is on the Council for Free Expression which is raising funds for John's lawsuit against the school district. His wife, Janet, has attended several hearings and has been present prior to many of the hearings and was part of the group in support of John.

I find it a bit interesting that out of the small group of people that attended the hearings or have strongly stated their support that there are 3 people running for offices in this next election.

It was just one of those "hhmmmmm" moments.

I have still been unable to get an answer to my question regarding Mr. Thompson's education POST high school. Again, I just want to know since he spent a good portion of the second "Meet the Candidate" night presented by the 9/12 group talking about how important he feels education is.

It's just a simple question which obviously has a simple answer and I don't understand why it is being "dodged".

Interesting info seabiscuit. Thanks!

I heard some friends got automated phone calls from the Thompson campaign. I think that might be a first for a school board election!

I didn't get an answer again on the political thread so I will repost this from Oct 19th:

I don't mean any disrespect, but I am disappointed that I missed the live interview with Paula Barone. I thought you were interviewing them only. I didn't know we could call in with questions. Do you have the rest of your schedule?

The question I would like to hear the answer too, which was ask Ms. Barone on the radio.

Is when Mr. Freshwater wins his case, how will the new board treat or handle him?

And, if this goes to civil court, will the board waste more money on lawyes or settle out of court?

I would ask that each person running for the office would sign-in and answer this question.

Yep, I got a phone call...said a neighbor of concern or something like that..young sounding voice...and it was to support Kirk and Thompson. Left a number to call if you had questions...I erased the message or I would post it.. I was listening to the message as I was about ready to leave..I did pick up the phone to see IF I could ask anything..but I think mine may have been an auto call..not really sure.

Isn't this concept of running on a "ticket" for the school board something new? Makes me uneasy. Might as well be honest and state on the campaign flyers that two of the candidates are from the "Christianity in Schools" party. I'm wondering: what Christian denomination will the schools adopt if they win?

Am fairly certain it wouldn't be Catholicism - as Freshwater has already denounced Catholicism as a "cult" religion

The Daubenmire disciples stated last year that they would have people run for School Board that would support Freshwater's position (even though it flies in the face of state and federal law) - they have done so.......

Doesn't mean they have to be successful in their mission........
