I've uploaded the video of Paula Barone from when she spoke at the August 4, 2008 school board meeting.

I had originally left her comments off YouTube due to a portion of her comments being retracted -- but since she is now a candidate for the board her comments are of more importance than they might have seemed last summer.

Thank you, mountvernon1805, for recovering Paula's comments from that meeting. I was never prouder of my wife than I was that evening as she so articulately stated the case for religion-neutral classrooms in our public schools.

I was, of course, disappointed that I had misidentified Mr. XXXX (I don't want to unfairly name him again) to her as the individual who had approached me at the previous board meeting. But as you noted, I immediately rose to apologize to Paula, and to Mr. XXXXX, for MY mistaking his identity. Ironically, the Minuteman member who had made the comments to me WAS in the audience that night, but made no attempt to take ownership of them. I thought that particularly cowardly on his part.

Nevertheless, thank you again mountvernon 1805 for making available to everyone Paula's comments from that evening. I believe hearing them (despite MY regretable error) will help Mount Vernon School District voters understand why the school board needs someone of her integrity, clear thinking and, above all, respect for all Mount Vernon students.

I drove up Beech Street today and noticed the Kirk and Thompson signage along the road in front of the Assembly of God church. Thought it odd that a church would endorse ANY candidate over another.

NRM, are you SURE about that? I was told a different number many years ago, but I live in Clinton Township, not the city. I believe we were told it was either 6 ft, or 3 feet on each side of the road...don't really remember now as it has not been an issue with me.

Thanks mtvernon1805

Paula Barone's message was a wonderful one, one that considers the diversity that exists in the public school setting and one that I expect should be held by anyone voted onto the board of a Public school.

Some churches are wiser..they PAY TAXES..so they can say whatever they want..endorse who ever they want..and IRS can go jump in the lake...

and their is a lawsuit about the rights of a pastor to speak to his church..about anything...and not be harrased..

501 charities (including churches, acorn, the red cross etc...) are not permitted to endorse any candidate or they risk losing their status as a non profit thus their donations.

This is why acorn will be losing their charity status...

FYI...members of the charity can endorse whomever they wish...publically...the charity itself cannot....if I were the head of the church I can stand up and support any candidate I chose...I just can't do it as the church.

O. R.C. 2950.031, prohibits certain sexually oriented offenders from “establishing a residence or occupying residential premises” that are within 1,000 feet of any school property.

I had a sex offender in my adult ed class. The building superintendent had to be notified, and the offender was advised he could drive to class and then was to immediately leave the premises after class. He was not allowed to loiter in the hallways, or on the premises.

I think its a mistake for churches to endorse any candidate mainly because there is likely to be representation of both political parties as well as people who support various candidates in bipartisan elections as well. Churches should not be a place where you feel like you can't belong because you want to vote for one person over another.

Regardless of their tax status, I would not want my church telling me how I should vote.

NRM,

Behave yourself. That comment pushed the boundaries of decency, to say the least.

LOL...

This topic has nothing to do with abortion. Hence the reason I acted as I did.

And no, I don't believe Jesus looks upon abortion with approval.

He didn't need to; the subject was addressed in the Book.
