Accidents
On Monday morning, Daniel F. Kehn, Jr., 52, of Butler was traveling eastbound on W. Ohio Avenue in a commercial truck with a crane on the rear.  He turned south onto S. Mulberry Street but failed to control his turn—which led him to strike an AEP utility pole.  Kehn was ticketed for the incident.
On Monday morning, William C Crego, 65, of Utica was backing his 2009 Chevy Silverado out of a parking place in front of the post office on W. High Street.   At the same time, Dustin A. Thomas was on W. High Street, stopped in traffic, facing west.  Crego did not see him and backed into Thomas’s 1993 Honda Civic.  Crego was ticketed for the incident.
On Monday afternoon, Sheliegh Conkle, 40, of Mount Vernon and Heather K. Rauscher, 41, of Walhonding were both facing north on S. Main Street at its intersection with Gambier Street.  Conkle was in the turn lane in her 2011 Nissan Altima.  Rauscher was beside her in a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle.  A semi was trying to turn onto S. Main Street from E. Gambier, which prompted Conkle to back up to avoid being hit by the semi, but when she did so she incidentally struck Rauscher’s vehicle.

Incidents
At around midnight on Monday, an officer was dispatched to the Children’s Resource Center on a report of two missing juveniles.  They had said that they were tired of staying there.  They were located at around 12:40 a.m. at the Northpoint Marathon, cited for violating curfew, and returned.
At 1:22 a.m. on Monday, a victim reported that his Hi-Point 9mm was stolen from his apartment in the 700-block of Follin Avenue.
At around 3 a.m. on Monday, a victim reported that 6 5mg oxycodone tablets and 36 1mg Alprazolam tablets were taken from an apartment on the 900-block of W. Chestnut.
While checking out a previous complaint about illegal dumping at Foundation Park on Monday afternoon, an officer found the name of a suspect.  He was subsequently charged for the offense.

- Book Discussion: Assassination Vacation
Location:
- Public Library of Mount Vernon, 201 N. Main Street
Description:
- As the summer vacation season begins, the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County will discuss “Assassination Vacation,” by Sarah Vowell at its next adult book discussion on Tuesday, May 21, 7:00 p.m. at the main library, 201 N. Mulberry Street. The discussion will be led by Linette Porter-Metler, PLMVKC Community Relations. Author Vowell has been described as a “cross between Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jon Stewart and Wednesday Addams” with her talent for detail, trivia and her quirky wit—whether in person, as a regular figure on television, radio or the movies, or by her writing. In this hard-to-put-down book, she shares her personal pilgrimage to learn more about the events people and places associated with the assassination of three American presidents: Lincoln, McKinley and Garfield. She takes her readers (as she takes her friends and family) through her own journey to historical enlightenment in this story of discovery and obsession. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Participants will be eligible to win a copy of the June adult book discussion book, “Swamplandia,” by Karen Russell, donated by Friends of the Library. Free copies of the book are available at the main or branch libraries, or can be purchased at local bookstores including Paragraphs Bookstore, Colonial Books and Kid’s Shelf, and Kenyon College Bookstore.
