Good response at school H1N1 clinics
MOUNT VERNON - The Knox County Health Department reports a good response from students at H1N1 clinics held this week at Centerburg, Danville, East Knox and Fredericktown schools.
The H1N1 clinic for Mount Vernon area youth is scheduled for Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Mount Vernon High School.
“Each of the county school districts have been very supportive and great to work with,” said Health Commissioner Dennis Murray. “The crowds have been very manageable and no one has had to wait too long.”
So far, 75 percent of students who had submitted consent forms prior to the clinics have participated in the school-based clinics. Last night’s clinic at Centerburg was the highest attended with 370 youth participating. The number of students receiving vaccine at the other county schools include 276 at East Knox; 269 at Fredericktown; and 195 at Danville; for a total of 1,110 students for the four county school clinics.
The Thursday clinic at Mount Vernon High School is expected to be the largest-attended clinic involving students from six elementary schools, the middle school, high school and area preschools, day care centers and other children, ages 6 months to 18 years.
Parents and students will enter the clinic through the south east door at the upper end of the building, near the career center. “There will be signs showing people where to enter the building and we’ll have staff helping with traffic,” said Murray. “We have plenty of vaccine for any child wanting it,” said Murray. “We will have nasal spray, shots and pediatric shots for those 6-35 months of age.”
The H1N1 Clinic for all Mount Vernon area youth, ages 6 months to 18 years, is Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School.
